Cold call objection · Script + tipsHow to Handle ‘It’s Too Expensive’Cold call script
“Too expensive” is rarely about the number itself. It is about the number compared to something – another quote, last year’s budget or a value the prospect hasn’t seen yet. Find out what before you defend the price.
Show me the scriptWhat to say when they say “It’s too expensive”
That sounds too expensive.
I understand. Too expensive compared to what – another quote, or the budget you had in mind?
Compared to what we pay now.
Makes sense. If we could show it pays for itself in saved hours within three months, would price still be the main concern – or is there something else?
Adapt the wording to your product and your own voice. A script is a starting point, not something to read out word for word.
Make it work on a real call
- Always ask “compared to what?” before you say anything about price.
- Talk about the cost of doing nothing and the result before you talk about discounts.
- Never discount on the first call. It tells the prospect your price was never real.

Questions about “It’s too expensive”
How do you handle a price objection on a cold call?
Ask what the price is compared to, then connect the price to a concrete result and check whether price is the only concern.
Should you offer a discount when a prospect says it’s too expensive?
Not on the first call. Clarify the comparison and show the value first. A quick discount weakens your position.
What does “too expensive” really mean?
It is rarely about the number itself. It is the number compared to something – another quote, last year’s budget or a value the prospect hasn’t seen yet.
